If you wish to get a wine that’s lighter, don’t pay attention to color. Red and white wines have identical amounts of alcohol. However, white wines usually taste a lot smoother. Find a nice Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc for very light flavors.

Red and white wines vary based on color and the particular grapes that are used. Red wines are made out of strong-bodied purple grapes. Green grapes, which are usually crisper and lighter, are used to make white wines. There are more subtle differences, however, than just the color of the grapes.
